Red and Black outfit : Indoor to outdoor style

Hi Friends! I hope you had a great valentines day. As you know I am the queen of black outfits however every now and then I like to add some color to my looks. This red and black outfit includes a red peplum top, my trusted black skinny pants and black riding boots. Since we are in the middle winter I decided to show you how I transitioned this black and red outfit from the inside to outside with the addition of a coat and scarf.

Red and Black outfit

My blogger BFF Kristin and I recently took a girls trip to Newport and I needed a outfit that was comfortable for our walks around town but still looked good enough for dinner at a restaurant later. I am usually in high boots but flat riding boots were a great choice as I did not want to tackle the cobblestone street in heels. The red long sleeved peplum blouse has a slight dressy look and was perfect for the restaurant. I opted for a black wool coat with a red scarf to complete the look.

Red and black outfit details:

Peplum top: The Peplum top is long sleeved petite size and is by Philosophy purchased from Nordstrom Rack.  Peplum tops with their wide bottoms are best worn with straight paints or pencil skirts to prevent a frumpy look.

Coat: There are 2 coat colors that should be in every girls closet, black and camel color coats. These 2 colors are very versatile and will go with most items in your closet. This cashmere blended stand up collar Coat is from Uniqlo and is currently on sale for $59.99 which is a steal.

Scarf: I love that this scarf is so soft, warm and is the perfect accessory to this red and black outfit. I also got this from Nordstrom Rack and it is by Vismaya

Boots: These are very simple black leather boots and they are great because they can be dressed up or down. I got these at Macy’s and they are by Easy Spirit.

The all black outfit

As they always say when in doubt wear black and you wont regret it. I may have made that up as I am not sure I have actually heard anybody say it. Regardless, I find that I often go for something black when I have run out of outfit ideas. This black ensemble was a last minute decision which turned out well for a shoot with Kristin. To our surprise we both turned up with all black outfits,  perhaps a new trend is in the air. Check out her outfit.

What I’m wearing:

Shoes: Michael Kors

Out and about : Boston Bloggers event

Lately I feel like I have been out and about almost every week which is unlike me but I am enjoying it. This Tuesday the Boston Bloggers hosted a event and it was great to meet members of the blogging world.
I wanted to keep things simple so I paired my favorite black skinny jeans with a black and white striped blouse.

Me and Joelle from My Sunday Dress

It was great to see Jess from Styled by Jess again and I also got to meet new people like Marie from Twinliving and Rebecca from Rebecca Murray photography.
The event was held at the Sinclair Kitchen which served yummy appetizers. Will be this restaurant again.

Style spotlight : Polka dot dress

I have never been a fan of polka dots because I found them too Taylor Swiftish which is really not my style. When my sister got me a polka dot dress I loved it and realized polka dots were not the enemy. If you are a little hesitant on polka dots, try making them part of an outfit as opposed to the entire outfit. I love them paired with solid colors e.g navy blue jeans with navy and white polka dot top. I would also suggest staying away from red/white or yellow/white dots to avoid looking too cutesy.
This dress is great for a summer lunch or casual dinner with friends. Love the unusual combination of green and brown dots. I did not wear a necklace since the dress had a detailed neck line and wearing a necklace would have made it look too busy.
The dress comes with a satin belt to accentuate the waist and it sits above the knee for that summer look. If you are looking for an affordable polka dot dress forever 21 has some nice choices. I also love the navy and white Pim + Larkin dress from Piperlime.
