Good Eats Boston: Bancroft & Co.

This weeks good eats Boston feature is the super stylish and inviting Bancroft & Co. restaurant located north of Boston at the North shore mall. I was there for brunch last weekend and loved everything about it. This modern American steakhouse impressed me the moment I stepped in. Velvet and leather upholstered seating, fun phone booths, plenty of seating and most importantly delicious food.

Bancroft & Co BUTTERMILK FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH

One of my favorite meals was the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with chipotle aioli and sweet potato fries. The chicken is perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The slight smokiness off the chipotle aioli paired with the sweetness from sweet potato fries is a flavor bomb in your mouth.

Another favorite of mine were the polenta fries. The crispy polenta fries were perfectly made with a delicious truffle aioli on the side. Not to forget the Bancroft burger with aged cheddar, crispy onions and house brioche. Everything I ate was just delicious.

No meal is complete without something sweet. If there is one thing you should try for brunch when you visit Bancroft & Co. is the crisp malted Belgian waffle with caramelized banana and rum butter sauce. This waffle was epic and could possibly be the best I have had. The inside was soft, fluffy and combined with intense sweet flavor of the caramelized banana, it is just pure heaven in your mouth.

If you have been to The Bancroft location in Burlington you will find a lot a similarities with Bancroft & Co. Some have described The Bancroft as Prince William and Bancroft & Co as Prince Harry. This is because one is more classic and serious while the other is more playful but both have the high quality and standards as they are cut from the same cloth. I totally agree with this comparison but I say you be the judge and head out there for your next meal. You will not be disappointed.

Alove Yogurt and Fruit Parfait

This post is sponsored by Alove in collaboration with Dent Agency. all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Welcome to October everyone! Did you know that October was the eighth month of the year in the ancient Roman calendar? The name October was derived from the Latin word ‘octo’ which means ‘eight’. When the Romans switched to a 12th month calendar they never changed the name which we still use today. Interesting, considering it is the 10th month, right?

Before I digress into more October fun facts, let’s get to today’s recipe. Alove Yogurt Parfait layered with fruit. Yogurt parfaits are probably one of the simplest things to make and you can layer them with whatever your heart desires. They can be eaten for breakfast, dessert or just as a snack. Since I am all about eating well I love to use fruit for my layers and have started using the Alove brand yogurt for my yogurt choice.

The key to a good yogurt parfait is the yogurt. You can always find yummy fruit but the yogurt is the glue that binds the parfait so to speak. You don’t want a yogurt that is too tart or too sweet and this is where Alove yogurt wins for me. Alove yogurt is aloe vera yogurt made from a mix of creamy yogurt and the inner flesh of the aloe vera leaf. This Japanese-style yogurt is the smoothest and silkiest I have ever had.

For this recipe I used pineapple chunks, strawberries, sliced kiwi and blueberries however you can use any fruit you like. I used the original flavor as I did not want the yogurt flavor to clash with the fruit. Alove comes in a variety of flavors including vanilla, strawberry, kiwi, peach and blueberry so there is something for everyone. I started off with a layer of yogurt, followed by the fruit then another layer of yogurt and fruit. This yogurt is not super thick so be prepared for the yogurt to slightly overlap with the fruit which is perfect.

As we slowly move into gloomy weather, a dish like this is a perfect breakfast sitting on the deck or even for those rushed mornings. It has become one of my favorite breakfast treats and I love how pretty it is when layered in a glass dish. I love margarita glasses or globe glasses for beautiful presentation. If you are leaning towards a dessert parfait you can use cookie crumbs, cake or brownie crumbles and graham crackers for your base layer.

Have you tried Alove yogurt? What are your favorite ingredients to use for parfaits? I would love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Beauty Bites: Strawberries, Food For Beautiful Skin

When the makeup artist was getting my face done for the wedding, she at one point called her colleagues and said “look at her skin, it is just perfect” and they all asked what products I use to maintain it. I have been asked this question so many times and each time I always have a different answer as I am always trying a different skin care brand when one runs out.

This got me thinking that I must be doing something else that is making my skin glow as it was clearly not the products. After much thought I realized that it is the food I eat because it is the one consistent thing I do.

One thing that our household never skimps on is the purchase of fresh produce. My shopping cart is usually about 70 percent produce and the rest is dry goods and meat. As a result we have been able to maintain healthy weight, good skin and well-being.

Strawberries are one fruit that I absolutely love and eat as often as I can. Yes, I know they can be expensive especially when they are out of season. The way I rationalize it is that those few extra dollars I am trying to save, I would have most likely spent them on something useless anyway. Why not spend them on something delicious and good for me.

Beauty Benefits of Eating Strawberries:

  • Strawberries are high in antioxidants which prevent collagen damage. This in turn prevents wrinkles from forming and makes the skin smooth and supple. The anti aging benefit of strawberries is amazing.
  • Strawberries are high in vitamin C which helps prevent and treat ultraviolet damage. Have a bowl of strawberries after a day in the sun, it will do your skin some good.
  • Eating strawberries also helps with lightening blemishes and scars caused by acne. The lightening extracts and ellagic acid in strawberries reduces dark spots on the skin.
  • Having strawberries regularly will increase overall skin health. Strawberries contain alpha-hydroxy acid, a key substance that helps eliminate dead skin cells and cleanses the skin

So next time you are at the grocery store, grab some strawberries and you are on your way to better skin and health!

Fresh Squeezed Juice: The easy way to upgrade your Breakfast

One of the simple pleasures of life is freshly squeezed juice in the morning. I look forward to weekends  when I can treat myself to a refreshing glass of orange juice. It’s not only delicious but also has many healthy benefits. It’s packed with vitamin C, promotes healthy metabolism and gives your immune system a boost.

Fresh Squeezed JuiceI usually use my Breville juicer but you can squeeze the oranges by hand or by using a citrus juicer. I like to  make it fun by adding grapefruit for added nutrition and flavor. Chill it in the freezer while you prep your breakfast and enjoy the pure goodness with one of these delicious breakfasts. It’s true what they say, once you go freshly squeezed you can’t go back.

Reasons to love Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice:

  • Fresh squeezed juice tastes 10 times better than the store bought variety.
  • It is free of harmful chemicals and preservatives. You don’t have to worry about consuming ingredients you can’t pronounce.
  • Fresh squeezed orange juice is packed with nutrition especially vitamin C which is good for collagen production, healthy skin and more.

Strawberry Chia Pudding Recipe

This post was sponsored by Hood as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

The most difficult part of sticking to my fitness regime is maintaining a healthy diet with my hectic schedule. I’m always trying to pack as much nutritious goodness into my breakfast, especially on my busy days. This usually means one of my favorite things in the world, chia puddings! They are a life saver because of their easiness to make and health benefits. All you need to do is mix the chia seeds with a liquid, let sit for a bit and you are good to go.

Strawberry Chia Pudding Recipe

The key to making a tasty chia pudding is to use the right liquid. Almond and cashew milk are some good options but my favorite is Hood Calorie Countdown Dairy Beverage. This dairy beverage is made by mixing filtered milk with water, cream and other ingredients for a yummy and creamy drink that is perfect for a chia pudding. You also get the benefits of less sugar, fewer carbs and calories which is plus.

Hood Calorie Countdown Dairy Beverage is ideal if you’re limiting your carb intake like me; it has 75% less carbs than traditional whole milk with 42% less sugar. Since I have been using Hood products I have become more conscious what I put in my body and with the wedding coming I have to stay in great shape.

Other reasons to love Hood Calorie Countdown:

  • It tastes great and is good for you! Hard to find a beverage like it with a creamy taste.
  • It comes in different varieties that cater to any diet including reduced fat, fat-free, whole and a chocolate flavor.
  • Hood Calorie countdown is made from good quality milk. You will love that no artificial growth hormones are used as pledged by the farmers.
  • It is affordable and easy to find. You do not have to break the bank or travel to a faraway heath shop to enjoy the goodness of Calorie Countdown. Calorie Countdown can be found at your nearest Walmart or neighborhood grocery store. Click this coupon link to save on your next Calorie Countdown purchase.

If you’ve never had chia pudding before try the simple recipe below. I recommend using Hood Calorie Countdown Dairy Beverage and adding your favorite fruit, berries nuts or granola. Don’t be afraid to be creative. I would love to hear your ideas on what you love adding to your chia puddings.
