A day in Boston’s Beacon Hill

Now that I live closer to the city I have been taking the time to explore the Boston more and it has been awesome. Checking out different neighborhoods and streets in the city is one of my favorite past times especially when the weather warms up. Last weekend we had a beautiful spring day and I decided to head out to the beautiful Beacon Hill neighborhood in Boston.

A day in Boston's Beacon HillThe Beacon Hill neighborhood has been referred to as one of Boston’s most picturesque areas. I couldn’t agree with this statement more. Lined with antique shops, boutiques, restaurants and beautiful cobble stone streets it is a truly gorgeous area.

I did not get a chance to take some shots on the famous Acorn street because it was packed with tourists so I went to the less busy streets. A characteristic of Beacon Hill are the stunning Victorian homes with beautiful doors and entrances. As you can tell I spent more time taking pictures of doors because I have a weird obsession with them.

If you are thinking of moving to Beacon Hill, plan on spending millions as it is one of the most expensive ares in the city. The homes, especially by Louisburg Square are worth over 15 million. For that reason I will stick to just visiting the area until I win the lottery.

After going for a walk and taking shots by the beautiful doors in the neighborhood I stopped by the lovely Rouvalis flower shop  and then grabbed a drink at the nearby Nourish Your Soul juice bar.  Ended the day relaxing at the public garden. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day.

There are so many laid back things to in Boston. If you are looking for a good hotel in the city I recommend the Aloft Boston Seaport hotel. You can read about my staycation at the hotel here

The Comfy Cozy Cape look

Seriously is it really November 15th already?! I feel like 2 days ago it was August when I was getting married and my family was home with me. Although time is flying way too fast, I can’t complain about is the fall weather. As I have mentioned before, Fall is my favorite fashion season because of the layers and different fabrics. For today’s fall fashion post, I am rocking the Charcoal Duchess Cape and my trusted black skinny jeans.

The Duchess Cape

I got this comfy cozy cape from Peach and was pretty bummed to find out that it is currently sold out as I was thinking of getting another color. Not sweating it too much as I know that I will find something else fabulous from Peach.

Speaking of layers, my advice is to mix it up this season. Get a loose-fitting Cape,  a dressy cape like this one, a fitted wool blazer or a chunky knit sweater jacket. The key is to mix it up and have fun with it.

How to Wear a Cape Jacket

The warm weather is finally here! Although here in New England we’re still dealing with a few cool days I can’t complain. Anything is better than cold weather.

My ever so stylish mother recently visited for my wedding dress shopping and in her usual fashion she brought some fab clothing items for me. One of my favorites was this white Cape Jacket. I wore it with white pants for my Baptism in April and will be wearing it a lot this summer.

Cape Jackets are one of those fashion items that you either love or hate, but if like me you love to experiment and have fun with outfits then you will love it. There is something very stylish and sleek about this look.

When shopping for a Cape Jacket, solid colors are the way to go. Start with a white or black one and go with other colors down the line. I love the combination of skinny pants with a cape blazer. I would say that don’t ever wear them with loose fitting clothing to avoid looking frumpy. For example a Cape Jacket will always look good with skinny pants and pencil skirts instead of a maxi skirt or baggy pants.

To complete a Cape Jacket look, add some accessories. Just remember not to go too crazy with the accessories. A few pieces like a watch, thin bracelets and a statement necklace will do the trick. For shoes you can go with a pointy toe heel which always looks fab paired with a cape jacket and skinny pants. For this look I went with black strappy heels, which worked perfectly.

Style Spotlight: Brown Leather Jacket

What clothing item do you run to when you get a last minute invite to a lunch or event? I tend to go for a pair of jeans, a blazer and heels. Now that it is colder outside the layers have to be warmer. Some of my favorite textures for fall and winter are wool, tweed and leather. I love that they all provide warmth, are timeless and are easy to style.

Last weekend I attended an event in Boston and I wore my trusted fall combo; Leather jacket, jeans and boots. Every girl should have a great leather jacket in her wardrobe. It is perfect to wear with a simple T-shirt, jeans combo and can be dressed up too. Check out my post on how to style a black leather jacket for more inspiration.

If you like the leather look but do not like the idea of wearing leather or follow a strict vegan lifestyle, brands like Vaute Couture, Cult of Coquette offer great leather substitutes.

Fall Fashion: How to layer with style

After the rather confusing weather patterns we have been experiencing in Boston it finally feels like fall! One could argue that fall brings the best fashion because of the different textures and layers that are added to our outfits. What I like about fall is that you can wear the same thing in different ways just by switching around the warm layer. In this look I started off with an all black base and layered the look with a faux fur vest and nude chunky heel pumps.

  1. Tweed or plain blazer and booties.
  2. Thick wool sweater and black pointy or round toe heels.
  3. Long sleeved sweater, thick blanket scarf and knee-high leather boots.
  4. Tan colored classic trench coat, Burberry print scarf and black knee-high boots or ankle booties.
  5. Down jacket, white scarf and converse sneakers

I could go on and on as the possibilities are endless. You can certainly play around with layers based on your wardrobe style but always remember to be comfortable with your look. The most stylish people are always confident in their outfits even if they don’t fit the world’s definition of style. See my post on how to wear a black sweater dress for more style advice.
