How to make a burger meal like a Pro

One of the best feelings is when you bite into a juicy burger when you are hungry. I don’t know what it is that makes burgers so popular. Perhaps its the combination of carbs, protein, leafy greens and a delicious sauce that creates a party in your mouth. Burgers are good in all forms, from vegetarian black bean burgers to all beef cheese burgers. There is no denying that burgers are one of the best food creations.

Nobody likes a dry burger and lean meats tend to result in dry burgers. when it comes to burgers, I go all out and like a little more fat in my meat. If you using a lean meat, try adding 1 tablespoon of olive oil and milk to create a juicy patty. That’s right, I said milk, don’t ask me why, it just works. Try my spicy ground turkey burger recipe if you need a beef alternative.

Try substituting uncooked onions with caramelized onions which add an extra layer of flavor to any burger. Always go with a cheese that melts really well like American cheese, Cheddar to Monterey Jack.

A good bun is just as important. I like to use those really cheap soft sesame rolls from the supermarket or brioche rolls from Trader Joe’s if I want a buttery roll. The important thing is to make sure the bread to patty ratio is good. You don’t want a really thick and bready roll with a tiny meat patty as the bread will overshadow the filling. You also don’t want a humongous meat patty and a small bread roll. It’s all about balance.

A burger night is fine with just the burgers but adding a salad to the mix is a good way to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need. I like to make a big salad with whatever vegetable I have in the refrigerator. I always have lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, carrots, fresh herbs and cucumber so those always make they way into my salad. Ingredients like avocados, radishes, peppers, olives, artichokes or feta cheese are all great additions also.

If you are not a big fan of burgers a great option are shrimp tacos which are also delicious and fun to prepare.

On Fridays we like to order take out but every now and then I like to make burgers or pizza to celebrate the start of the weekend. Here is how we do burger night at home.

  1. I love burgers but I don’t have to often because they are quite fatty. However, a good burger needs to be juicy, almost rare I would say. And it has to have caramelized onions and pickles. These are my must haves for a great burger 🙂

  2. I’m not much of a burger girl but I have to admit these sound REALLY good! – and look it of course. Shrimpt tacos also sound amazing so I will check them out 🙂

  3. I know what you mean about the feeling of biting into a juicy burger. Yum yum yum. Thanks for all the tips. I know I sometimes struggle to give the meat I cook a little bit more flavor.

  4. Burgers are my favorite food! I love all types of burgers. Beef, turkey, veggie. I bought some frozen chicken like burgers from Trader Joe’s. Omg so good!

  5. I love a good burger! I’m a picky eater, so my burgers always have pickles & ketchup. Sometimes, I’ll add cheese and bacon. I recently discovered Martin’s Potato Rolls. They’re soft and so yummy! They’re healthier than manny other options too.

  6. I looooove burgers! I don’t have them often though, I don’t know why… maybe because I’m married to an Italian and he prefers italian food! Well, my trick for making lean meat burgers which are not dry is covering the burgers with a pot lid once I’ve marked the two sides (so that they are brown). This allows for the moist in the meat to stay and not evaporate. Of course, the trick doesn’t work with fatty meat, because fat boils and doesn’t taste good. but it also works great with turkey burgers, which also tend to be dry!

  7. I love a good burger with just the right amount of crunchiness and softness…this milk tip is a god sent…will try it the next time i make burgers at home…

  8. I agree with replacing uncoooked onions with caramelized onions! I always prefer them on my burgers after I discovered them. They make the burger taste 100% better!
