Fall/Winter trend : Down vest

While riding the subway to work I noticed a girl wearing black skinny jeans, black knee high boots and a black down vest over a ivory sweater. Her outfit really grabbed my attention because it had a simple elegance to it. I have always stayed away from down vests because I thought they looked too bulky and boring. However this girl on the subway inspired me and now I own a down vest. Thank you stylish subway girl!
I was very surprised as to how much warmth comes from wearing a down vest considering the lack of sleeves. Research shows that if you are warm on the core or chest area then the extremities like hands will feel warm too.
How you layer with down vests is very important because you do not want to look like a balloon. Choose a vest that is not too large or too small and I suggest wearing thinner fabrics under the vest e.g a light cotton sweater. I prefer to wear my vest unzipped or unbuttoned to prevent that bulky look.

Below are some ideas on how to wear down vests.

I love the way Carrie Underwood wore her down vest with skinny jeans , cute top underneath and leopard print pumps. Simple and stylish!

You can also rock this look with boots , just remember to wear skinny jeans if you are going to tuck them in the boots. I cannot stand the look of baggy jeans tucked in boots. Not a good look ladies!

Reese Witherspoon must love vests because she has been spotted in a few down vests . I like the way she wore the navy blue vest with jeans, a striped top and flats for a more casual look.
