Easy Holiday Red Wine Sangria

Make your holiday party and gathering more fun and festive with this Holiday Red Wine Sangria. Sangria’s are awesome in the summer but they can be enjoyed anytime of the year.  What makes this recipe Spoons and Stilettos approved is the substitution of soda with carbonated mineral water and the overall beauty of the drink.
Holiday Red Wine Sangria
Sangria is basically mixed fruit and wine or some may describe it as a boozy punch. Other ingredients include a sweetener like sugar or honey and another type of liquor like rum or brandy. It is also one of those drinks that tastes better the next day so you are better off making it the day before but can still enjoy it immediately.

This sangria recipe is perfect for a holiday party or get together. To give a festive look, the drink is garnished with fresh cranberries and a spring of fresh rosemary. You can add pomegranate, strawberries or blueberries in this recipe. I did not want to spend too much money so used apples and pineapple slices that I had on hand.

Holiday Red Wine Sangria

Best Wines for Sangria

Most white wine varieties are great for sangria. The ones with a lot of oak are not as great but still work if you have no other option. Examples of good white wines include dry Riesling, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. Citrus works very well in a white sangria, think lemons, oranges and limes. Try my New Year’s Lime and Lemongrass Sangria recipe.

For red wine sangria’s, my favorite is a Spanish wines like Rioja. Pinot Noir is a great option too as well as Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Peaches, apples, strawberries and pears work perfectly with red wine but feel free to try your favorite fruits.

I would avoid choosing an expensive wine for Sangria since it will be diluted and mixed with other ingredients. Opt for a reasonably priced wine that tastes good.

KALE, MINT AND APPLE GREEN JUICE

I am not one to make New Year’s resolutions but since I am preparing for my wedding this summer, I have decided to make changes to my diet. One of them is to start each day with a green juice or smoothie. Green juices have plenty of vitamins and nutrients which assist with improved overall health, improved energy and healthy glowing skin. I call it the beauty juice.

There are so many recipe variations for green juice and every now and then I create a recipe that needs an extra boost of sweetness. Since I do not want to fill my juice with lots of sugar, I use Truvia Natural Sweetener which is a naturally sweet, zero-calorie, Stevia based sweetener. I like to use it for veggie green juices which need some sweetness and also like to add it when using green apples as my fruit component. I love that is it naturally derived and is certainly a great way to add sweetness with zero calories.

KALE, MINT AND APPLE GREEN JUICE

Truvia Natural Sweetener is very versatile and can be used in various recipes and drinks. Pretty much it can be used instead of sugar in most recipes. You can use it in baked goods, oatmeal, coffee and even in salad dressings. I have used it in glazed carrots, coleslaw salad and it was delicious.

I got my Truvia Natural Sweetener at my neighborhood Shaw’s market, however you can purchase yours at your local grocery store. I chose the box which contains 40 packets of sweetener as I like the convenience of using packets. One packet has a sweetness equivalence of 2 teaspoons of sugar with zero calories which is pretty awesome.

Kale, Mint and Apple Green juice Recipe

The ingredients for this recipe are very simple and easy to obtain. Fresh organic kale, mint, apples, a squeeze of fresh lime juice and a packet of Truvia Natural Sweetener is all you need. You can substitute kale with spinach if you prefer.

When it comes to creating a juice its important to consider the veggie fruit content. There should be more veggies than fruit, at least 3/4 should be veggies. This kale, mint and apple green juice is light, refreshing and very green. You feel a boost in your energy not long after drinking it. It is best served immediately before the natural enzymes in the produce start breaking down but you can place it in a well sealed glass container and drink it a couple of hours later. I made a huge amount in the morning, drank some of it at home and packed some in glass bottles to take to work.

KALE, MINT AND APPLE GREEN JUICE

Making the juice is extremely easy with a juicer. First juice the kale followed by the apples and then some sprigs of mint. Turn off the juicer and add a squeeze of lime juice and a packet of sweetener.

Step 1: Wash and assemble the ingredients next to the juicer then quarter the apples.

Step 2: Process the kale in the juicer first followed by the apples and mint.

Step 3: Stir in a packet of Truvia Natural Sweetener and squeeze in juice from 1/2 a lime.

New Year's Lime and Lemongrass Sangria

Can you believe New Year’s day is right around the corner! One of my New Year’s goals is to eat and drink well, starting by cutting down on drinks and foods that are not good for me. This non-alcoholic Lime and Lemongrass Sangria is a perfect way to start my year of better eating and drinking.

My Lime and Lemongrass Sangria recipe is super easy. All you need is lemongrass, limes, lemons, mint and Don Victor® Orange Blossom Comb Honey Globe Jar. This drink is better for you than a regular Sangria because it’s alcohol free, has a lower sugar content and better taste with the use of Don Victor® Honey. The honey is raw, filtered and has not been heated or processed which is the best honey you can find in stores.

New Year's Lime and Lemongrass Sangria

Creating this refreshing Lime and Lemongrass Sangria is pretty easy and fun. First stop was Walmart to get some Don Victor® Honey. If you need to get some of this yummy honey, don’t go looking for it where standard honey products are located. Instead you can find it in its unique location in the Hispanic Aisle at any Walmart store. look for the beautiful globe jar with the honeycomb inside. Which by the way would make a great gift for the foodies in your life. I highly recommend you grab a jar or 2 the next time you are grocery shopping.

Before we go ahead with the recipe, lets talk about why  Don Victor® Honey is the best choice for the sangria. Don Victor® Honey is of premium quality in comparison to most honeys out there. What I love about the honey is that it comes with a comb inside unlike the standard honey. The honeycomb is edible and I love that it adds some texture. If you don’t know how to use the honey comb I have some ideas for you right here:

6 Ways to eat Honey Comb
  1. Stir it into plain yogurt : The honey will add some sweetness and the comb will provide some texture to the yogurt. it’s a better way to eat yogurt as you can control the sweetness.
  2. Add it to your salad: Including some chopped honeycomb into your arugula and feta salad will add some sweetness and balance out the peppery arugula and salty feta. It’s so good, even the young ones will be asking you for more salad.
  3. Add it to your cheese board: Most cheese boards will have some sort of jam but you can switch things up and impress your guests by using honeycomb in yours. Guests can spread some honeycomb with cheese on their crackers. I have tried it with Brie which was delicious but I am sure other cheeses work just as well.
  4. Use some in your Oatmeal: Add a piece of honey comb into hot oatmeal and stir. It’s hard for me to go back to regular honey for my oatmeal after eating it this way.
  5. Spread it on toasted bread, bagels, pancakes or scones: The other day I spread the honeycomb on a warm toasted bagel then added some cream cheese and a thin slice of prosciutto. It was so simple and so delicious with the perfect balance of sweet and savory.
  6. Eat it by itself: Sometimes you just need something sweet and chewy. Honey comb with satisfy that craving right away.
