Beauty Bites: Strawberries, Food For Beautiful Skin

When the makeup artist was getting my face done for the wedding, she at one point called her colleagues and said “look at her skin, it is just perfect” and they all asked what products I use to maintain it. I have been asked this question so many times and each time I always have a different answer as I am always trying a different skin care brand when one runs out.

This got me thinking that I must be doing something else that is making my skin glow as it was clearly not the products. After much thought I realized that it is the food I eat because it is the one consistent thing I do.

One thing that our household never skimps on is the purchase of fresh produce. My shopping cart is usually about 70 percent produce and the rest is dry goods and meat. As a result we have been able to maintain healthy weight, good skin and well-being.

Strawberries are one fruit that I absolutely love and eat as often as I can. Yes, I know they can be expensive especially when they are out of season. The way I rationalize it is that those few extra dollars I am trying to save, I would have most likely spent them on something useless anyway. Why not spend them on something delicious and good for me.

Beauty Benefits of Eating Strawberries:

  • Strawberries are high in antioxidants which prevent collagen damage. This in turn prevents wrinkles from forming and makes the skin smooth and supple. The anti aging benefit of strawberries is amazing.
  • Strawberries are high in vitamin C which helps prevent and treat ultraviolet damage. Have a bowl of strawberries after a day in the sun, it will do your skin some good.
  • Eating strawberries also helps with lightening blemishes and scars caused by acne. The lightening extracts and ellagic acid in strawberries reduces dark spots on the skin.
  • Having strawberries regularly will increase overall skin health. Strawberries contain alpha-hydroxy acid, a key substance that helps eliminate dead skin cells and cleanses the skin

So next time you are at the grocery store, grab some strawberries and you are on your way to better skin and health!

  1. i love how you rationalized the purchase of off season strawberries. “i probably would have bought something useless anyway” thats a great way to think of it and a great mindset to have. im normally a frugal grocery shopper so i cant fathom the pricetag sometimes, but still end up putting treats and junk food in my cart if its on sale. i definitely need to try your midset and see if that makes a difference in the quality of foods in my cart.

  2. Oh we so love our strawberries here, but it wasn’t a good season this year 🙁 Strawberry picking was just sad. Thank heavens for Costco who came through a few times with some nice sweet ones!

  3. I had no idea that eating strawberries had so many health benefits! My daughter is going to turn into a strawberry because she eats them so much!

  4. Never knew about the positive effect of strawberries on the skin!!! I absolutely love fruits and veggies, but lately I’ve been eating more meat. You really can feel the difference

  5. I love strawberries! I knew they had benefits but some of them I haven’t heard before. Thanks for sharing this information.

  6. I love strawberries anyway so now I have even more reasons to eat them! Thanks for sharing the tips and benefits of eating this!

  7. We’re out of season here for strawberries so they’re harder to come by. We love them for many reasons, but honestly my favorite one is we just love to eat them (they taste so good!). 🙂

  8. I love strawberries! I used to eat this fruit almost everyday. But now I moved to another country and it’s quite difficult to get a hand on fresh strawberries. Plus they’re so expensive here. 🙁
