Bacon and Cheddar Fries Recipe

It’s cheat meal day and on cheat days I go big. This month I decided to make some Bacon and Cheddar fries for Saturday lunch. Topped with sharp cheddar cheese, green onions and spicy jalapeños, they are the ultimate indulgence and absolutely delicious.

I love this recipe because it is fast, flavorful and fantastic. I also like that it is finger food that you can totally eat as a meal too. I like to serve them with sour cream on the side but you can use ranch if your prefer. If you were to serve these for your guests on game day you will be guaranteed some very happy guests. They are just that good. Toppings can be anything you want and check out more options.

There are so many different toppings you can use for cheese fries. See more topping ideas including vegetarian options below.

5 Toppings for cheese fries:
  1. Chili and cheese: Top fries with hearty chili sauce and cheese sauce.
  2. Bacon and Blue cheese: Switch cheddar with blue cheese for a unique and delicious flavor.
  3. barbecue pulled pork and cheddar cheese. The sweet and smokey flavor of the pulled and the cheese is a insanely delicious combination.
  4. Beans, cheese and salsa: This is a tasty vegetarian topping option that doesn’t sacrifice on taste.
  5. Spicy Lentils and cheese: Another delicious vegetarian option that tastes just as great.

Love these bacon and cheddar fries? I’m sure you will also love my Kale, egg and cheese quesadilla recipe too.

Sweet Bakery: Good Eats Boston

The Good Eats Boston feature of the week is the pretty fabulous Sweet Bakery shop in Boston. I recently found out about this place and I’m in love. Sweet Bakery is a great place to go when you owe yourself a sweet treat or for those days when you need a pick me up.

Sweet Bakery to go box

Sweet Bakery is a cute store that is located right in Boston’s downtown crossing area which makes it easily accessible. As you may have noticed, I love stores that have great product but also have pretty and unique ambiance. Sweet Bakery doesn’t disappoint with both. The store is very pretty, decorated with bright and wall-papered walls, little flower vases on the tables and super cool pink princess-like upholstered chairs. You will love the seats right by the window which are perfect for people watching.

There are plenty of cupcake flavors to choose from. I chose a chocolate and coconut flavor cupcake which were both perfect. The cakes are soft and fluffy while the frosting is packed with flavor and not overly sweet. The ratio between cake and frosting is done right. They also serve cookies and other pastries which is great. For all the vegans out there you will be happy to know Sweet has vegan options too.

I really can’t find anything negative to say about this place except it would be nice if they served the cupcakes on a dessert plate rather than a paper plate for eat in guests. However that’s just me and my pickiness, I just detest paper plates and cups as I feel they should only be used for people ordering items to go.

The saying, You can’t buy happiness but you can buy cupcakes is one I totally agree with. There is something about eating a cupcake that brings joy and a feeling that all is right with the world, even for just a few minutes. If you live in the Boston area, I highly recommend Sweet Bakery. They also have locations in Chestnut Hill and Harvard Square. For more info, visit Sweetcupcakes.com

What to wear to a early spring date

Your girlfriends or honeybun have invited you for lunch in the city new hottest spot. It’s only the beginning of spring and still cold outside, what do you wear? It certainly can’t be sweatpants and converse snickers or a swanky cocktail dress. Cool weather can be hard to dress for especially if you don’t want to look over or underdressed. I have just the look that will work for this occasion.

Chunky sweater and black pants

The easiest choice is a pair of black skinny pants, a cozy stylish sweater and heels. Why these three? First, black cropped skinny pants add a certain polished feel to an outfit, you can’t go wrong with them. A cozy stylish sweater provides warmth which is your number one goal and also makes you not look too overdressed. The heels don’t need an explanation, they give instant elegance and style to the look. If you are having a nice spring day, go for pointy toe heels. However if it is too cold outside, opt for some sleek knee high boots. Throw on some simple accessories like a chunky bracelet, a big faced watch, a hat and you are good to go.

What to wear to a winter date

Since it will still be chilly outside you will need a warm jacket. Fitted wool coats are my go to when I need to look dressed up or smart and casual. A down coat or hoodie would be too casual for this look. Another option is a stylish jacket like this leather jacket with faux fur lining that I am wearing. The point is too look smart but not over or underdressed.

So there you go! A simple and cute early spring weather outfit that you can rock for lunch or even a dinner date. What do you like to wear for chilly nights out? Easy Banana & Berry Smoothie Bowl

I have been meaning to post a smoothie bowl recipe for quite some time now and today I finally did it! It almost seems un-foodblogger-like not to have a smoothie bowl recipe since they are one of the hottest items in the food world right now. I am starting off very simple with a easy Banana & Berry smoothie bowl. It’s easy to make and uses simple ingredients.

easy Banana & Berry smoothie bowl

Smoothie bowls are basically thick smoothies served in a bowl. Whoever came up with this idea deserves props as the bowls are so much fun and are a great alternative to the drinkable smoothies. From my research online the bowl frenzy started with Acai bowls which originated in Brazil and later made their way to San Francisco. Since then, there have been so many variations of the bowls but one thing that can’t be denied is how delicious and good for you they are.

Thanks to Instagram, smoothie bowls have also become a trendy food. If you just type the words smoothie bowl on Instagram you will find the prettiest and artistically decorated smoothie bowls out there. Sometimes they look too pretty, you wonder if the person who made it actually ate it. My only problem with those perfect smoothie bowls is that they are unrealistic. Nobody has time to add pretty flowers and sprinkles to their food. This is why it was important to me that the recipe I share today includes day to day ingredients that can easily be found.

For this smoothie bowl I used frozen bananas, frozen berries and almond milk. Frozen fruit works better for smoothies in my opinion but you can certainly use fresh fruit. I love the texture that frozen fruit brings to smoothies. I also used almond milk instead of cow’s milk because I wanted a smoothie that wasn’t too creamy but had more of a sorbet taste. For those days when I want a really creamy smoothie, I use milk instead.

This easy banana & berry smoothie bowl is ready in less than 5 minutes. I topped it with pre-sliced fruit for convenience sake but if you want to save money I suggest cutting the fruit yourself. Sometimes I find pre-sliced fruit worth the extra bucks since my time is so limited. If you are looking for more inspiration check out my Easy Citrus Sour Cream Mousse Recipe too!

Good Eats Boston: By Chloe Seaport

February is over and I am happy to report that I have managed to stick to my 80/20 eating plan. Before you think this is some crazy diet, it’s not. The 80/20 eating plan means 80% plant based and 20% everything else. That means there are no restrictions, it’s all about moderation. I believe that it’s fine to have a slice of pizza or a piece of bacon sometimes. Thanks to restaurants like By Chloe it is easy to stick to my eating plan.

Good Eats Boston: By Chloe Seaport

Following my 80/20 eating plan means careful consideration when choosing restaurants. Although most restaurants dedicate part of their menu to plant based dishes, it is usually a small section with really boring dishes. Unlike California where I feel like there are more vegetarian and vegan restaurants, Boston is slowly upping it’s game with vegan and vegetarian restaurants. By Chloe being one of them.

Good Eats Boston: By Chloe Seaport

You may be familiar with by Chloe from a previous post I wrote about them. They are a vegan fast casual restaurant with delicious and creative menu items. Recently I tried their Beet Mine Burger, made with a beet-lentil-walnut patty topped with sauteed mushrooms, sauteed kale, pickled red onion, truffled basil aioli‌ and served on whole grain bun. This is by far one of the best vegan burgers I have had.

I added a side of air baked sweet potato fries and a seasonal lemonade to drink. Next time I would like to try the Guac burger which my new photographer friend Becky had. The Guac‌ burger is made with a black bean-quinoa-sweet potato patty, guacamole, corn salsa, lettuce, tomato, onion, tortilla strips, chipotle aioli on a whole grain bun. They do offer gluten free option for those who need.

There is something to be said for the simple, bright and clean ambiance that each By Chloe location has. I absolutely love succulent flower wall and the swinging chairs at the By Chloe Seaport location. With locations in Boston, New York, Providence, Los Angeles and London already, I feel this is not the last time we will hear about By Chloe. Check them out at ByChloe.com
